Brave New World - Aldous Huxley
Brave New World is a shocking glimpse into a possible future for humanity: mass-produced people, all neatly categorized into pre-determined classes. Huxley's dystopian vision of our future is as resonant today as it was when it was published in 1932.

The Canterbury Tales - Geoffrey Chaucer
The Canterbury Tales is the next work we will study; it is a collection of over 20 stories written in Middle English by Geoffrey Chaucer in the mid-fourteenth century. It seeks to tell the tales of 29 ordinary medieval citizens on a pilgrimage to the shrine of Thomas a Becket at Canterbury. It is significant for many reasons, not the least of which is that it popularized the use of English rather than French or Latin in literary works.

Lord of the Flies - William Golding
At the dawn of the next world war, a plane crashes on an uncharted island, stranding a group of schoolboys. At first, with no adult supervision, their freedom is something to celebrate. This far from civilization, they can do anything they want. Anything.
But as order collapses, as strange howls echo in the night, as terror begins its reign, the hope of adventure seems as far removed from reality as the hope of being rescued...
